ODIE’S EXPLAINED
Odie’s Universal Oil Coverage and Value
Protection within the surface. Exceptional coverage from every jar.
Odie’s Universal Oil, also known as Regular Odie’s Oil, is a high-performance penetrating hardwax oil finish for wood and other surfaces. Made from a proprietary blend of modified natural oils and waxes, it cures clear without yellowing.
How is Odie’s different from a film-forming finish?
Odie’s Universal Oil penetrates and bonds at a molecular level with the surface. It becomes integrated with the material instead of sitting on top as a separate film that can peel, flake or delaminate. It is a complete proprietary finishing formulation, not straight tung oil, straight linseed oil, mineral oil. It is solvent free and contains no poison chemicals.
How much does Odie’s Universal Oil cover?
| Jar Size | Coverage per Ounce | Estimated Coverage per Jar |
|---|---|---|
| 4 oz | 30+ sq. ft. | 120+ sq. ft. |
| 9 oz | 30+ sq. ft. | 270+ sq. ft. |
| 32 oz | 30+ sq. ft. | 960+ sq. ft. |
What makes Odie’s Universal Oil a strong value?
Compare finish material cost per square foot, rather than container size. Odie’s combines high coverage with protection within the surface, without a film to periodically strip and replace.
Material-cost example: A 32 oz jar at $236.46, covering 960 square feet, works out to approximately $0.25 per square foot in finish material.¹
Can I use it on floors, tables and countertops?
Yes. Odie’s oil was originally created for hardwood floors, but will also work on exterior doors, gates, furniture, tables, countertops and cutting boards; on interior and exterior surfaces. It works on all exotic and domestic woods, and its versatility extends to concrete, stone, metal, leather and epoxy. Follow the preparation and application guidance for each surface; coverage varies by material.
Do I need additional coats?
The first properly applied coat provides protection. Additional applications will enhance aesthetic and durability and allow you to develop your desired sheen and appearance, rather than automatically required maintenance coats. Follow the instructions for your surface and desired result.
Does Odie’s require periodic finish maintenance?
Odie’s care guidance does not call for scheduled recoating of an undamaged surface. Continue routine cleaning. Repair is needed when the substrate—the wood or other underlying material—is physically damaged or worn away. Address the damaged material and reapply locally as needed. This is substrate repair, not replacement of a failing surface film.
Apply sparingly. Work into the surface. Buff off all excess.
Not just for the Pros. Odie’s Oil is for everyone.
