What is Odie's Super Penetrating Oil? | Non-Toxic Wood Finish

How to Apply Odie's Super Penetrating Oil | Non-Toxic Wood Finish

Applying Super Penetrating Oil on Redwood | All Natural Wood Finish

WHAT IT IS-
Odie’s Solvent Free Super Penetrating Oil (SPO) is an extraordinary penetrating oil finish that provides the ultimate in stability and clarity primarily to wood. Food safe, solvent free and non toxic, containing no added driers, heavy metals or part 2 catalyst.

WHAT IT DOES-
Odie’s Solvent Free Super Penetrating Oil penetrates and migrates deep within the surface of the wood, replenishing the cellulose fibers that once carried water and nutrients up the tree. This helps to mitigate moisture gain and loss through the seasons and humidity changes, reducing wood movement (expansion & contraction) and minimizing splitting, cracking, warping and cupping. Another key benefit of Odie’s Solvent Free Super Penetrating Oil is the clarity it provides. The deeper an oil penetrates, the more the natural colors of the wood become revealed. Odie’s Solvent Free Super Penetrating Oil enhances with the ultimate clarity, keeping the lights light and the darks dark, amplifying beautiful contrast and depth, celebrating the spectrum of natural colors and tones in wood. Odie’s Solvent Free Super Penetrating Oil cross links and bonds molecularly becoming one with the medium it applied to.

WHAT YOU CAN USE IT ON-
Odie’s SPO can be used on any wood project, interior or exterior, that could benefit from additional stabilization and or where the ultimate in clarity is a desired value. Great for all species of wood, exotic and domestic, solid or veneer. Formulated to work on even the oiliest of woods. Though originally developed for wood, Odie's Solvent Free Super Penetrating Oil can be used on other solid and semisolid media including but not limited to concrete, leather, stone, metal, plastic and more.

WHY YOU NEED IT-
Odie’s SPO is designed to provide the ultimate in wood stabilization and to bring out all the natural colors of wood with optimal clarity. It is primarily used as a light base coat in the Odysseus Cornwall’s system of all natural finishing and lays the foundation to producing superior stabilization in woodworking projects with unrivaled clarity. Odysseus Cornwall’s finishes covers many, many times the area of other wood finishes. Up to 20 times the coverage as conventional finishes.

MADE IN THE USA

SPECIFICATIONS
32 oz reusable glass jars.

COVERAGE METRIC-
Approximately 21-25+ Sq. Ft per oz on typical domestic hardwoods (ie:cherry, walnut, maple,
oak)
Approximately 14-18+ Sq. Ft per oz on softwoods (ie:cedar, pine, fir)
Up to 35-50+ Sq. Ft per oz on dense exotic hardwoods (ie:rosewood, purpleheart, brazilian
walnut, jatoba)
Approximately 35-50 Sq. Ft per oz on metal depending on surface texture.
Approximately 35+ Sq. Ft per oz on epoxy

TO USE-
-Stir or mix well before use as ingredients may settle overtime
-Calculate how much oil you need for your project based on wood species or surface material. Use just enough to change the color of the wood, remember, a little goes a long way, DO NOT over saturate!
-Apply sparingly with a non-woven pad (rated equal to or just higher than your last sanding grit) and work the oil into the surface using circular motions. The friction from the application process helps to loosen up and drive the oil into the surface.
-Once the oil has been thoroughly worked into the surface, allow to set up for approximately 10 minutes to 3 hours (45-60 minutes being the ideal time) Do not allow the product to set for more than 8-10 hours, this may result in a reapplication with Odie’s Universal Oil to reactivate the finish for a proper buff/wipe off.
-Now it’s time to Buff Off and remove any and all excess/residual oil from the surface until dry to touch. Take a clean terry cotton towel and scrub the surface clean, making sure to regularly flip to a clean section of towel as it gets loaded up with oil. Switch to a clean towel if/when needed. If you can swipe a clean finger across the surface without leaving a mark, you are done!
-For ultimate protection Let cure for 24-48 hours and topcoat with your Odysseus Cornwall’s finish of choice.

TO MAINTAIN-
The only way to wear the finish away is to wear the surface away itself. If and when the time comes for some maintenance, whether it’s your floor, a countertop, tabletop or cutting board etc, simply clean the surface and apply another light coat of your desired choice of Odysseus Cornwall’s finish as per their instructions. For exterior projects, maintenance will depend on the direct exposure to the elements and the products originally used to finish the project. In extreme conditions, maintenance could be once a year to once every several years or longer in normal conditions.

    Base coat on tables

Posted by Mr B on 15th Dec 2020

Using this to finish two farm house tables - this is my base coat and I use standard Odies Oil as top coat. This is thinner version, and it seems to pull into the wood fibers. Dry time is surprisingly fast, and the key is buffing all the oil off the surface that is present to the eye. It popped the grain very well on larch wood and it stabilized knots. It took more work to get it into oil based stain treated wood, but it does enter the stained wood with some work and circular movement of the application pad. A little goes a long way so this bottle lasts. I finished two tables and barely used 1/5 of the bottle. The idea is that this will enter into the wood fibers and link with the wood so your other coats of Odies Oil will not have to penetrate so deep and you use less. I'll be using this on many projects. Oh, can't forget - smells pleasant and these working hands feel like they got a spa treatment from the natural oils ( : I can't say enough about the great service from Bruce - thank you Bruce for helping with my questions!

As a construction waterproofing expert I was delighted to discover this product. The non-toxic nature of this excellent wood waterproofing product (even over finished wood) impressed me (after nearly 50 years in the workplace). I was also very impressed on how it works for leather.

    Odies penetratin oil

Excellent!!! I am so happy that I discovered Odies Oil for my deck. First recommended by Sean Wilson http://swartisticexpressions.com I first applied Odies by hand using terry cloth rags. Hand rubbing and buffing all in one. I was very happy with the finish. So happy I decided I would do it again with an orbital buffer. Rather than rent, I decided to by an Oreck on Amazon. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BPFK1U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I reapplied Odies using the Oreck Orbital Floor Machine with a cloth bonnet and then buffed with a lambs wool bonnet. It went on like a dream. Smooth as silk and all done in an hour. It rained the next day and the water beads beautifully. I feel like I’ve found the perfect way to protect and maintain the beauty of our deck with minimal cost and effort. I only wish I had discovered Odies when we first built the deck and applied it to the virgin wood. No more sanding, no more sanding just an occasional application of Odies and we should be good for years and years to come.
